Emergencies
Call 911 from a campus phone or 617-287-1212 from a cell phone in any emergency that requires immediate police, fire or medical response to preserve a life.This includes:
- serious injury or illness
- serious mental-health issues that might lead to suicide, assault or homicide
If someone becomes agitated and you are concerned about the potential for violence:
Leave the scene immediately, if possible. Call UMass Boston Public Safety at 911 from a campus phone or 617-287-1212 from a cell phone after moving to a safer place.

Injuries
After calling 911, you may provide first aid if you are trained, if it is safe to do so, and if the victim consents. Do not attempt to move an injured person unless it is absolutely necessary to prevent further injury. Calmly assure the injured person that help is on the way.
For all injuries, a UMass Boston University Accident Report must be completed by the injured party. This includes campus visitors, as well as students, faculty and staff. The Accident Report may be obtained by contacting your supervisor or Human Resources at 617-287-5150.
Non-Emergency Care
Students who require medical care for non urgent injuries or illness can present to UHS General Medicine during normal hours of operation, or by calling 617-287-5660. Students who require mental health care or evaluation for non urgent situations can present to the UHS Counseling Center during their normal hours of operation, or by calling 617-287-5690. UMass Boston faculty and staff who are experiencing an urgent mental health issue should contact their insurance carrier or the Employee Assistance Program, LifeWorks, at 888-267-8126 or www.lifeworks.com (user ID: umass password: lifeworks).
